Synergy emerged from a combination of professional practice, trauma research, and my childhood moving through the care system. As a psychology teacher working with young people affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), I observed consistent patterns in behaviour, learning difficulties, and emotional dysregulation that aligned closely with what the literature describes as chronic activation of the stress-response
Synergy emerged from a combination of professional practice, trauma research, and lived experience. As a psychology teacher specialising in working with young people affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and complex trauma. I observed consistent patterns in behaviour, learning difficulties, and emotional dysregulation that illustrated that the young person was in a constant state of "fight or flight
Behaviours often labelled as “challenging” were, in fact, predictable neurobiological responses. These young people were operating from dysregulated nervous systems shaped by trauma, not from choice or defiance. Their difficulties with attention, emotional expression, and impulse control were correlated with an over stimulated prefrontal cortex, and autonomic nervous
This recognition led me to further training in trauma theory, including Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, and a deeper exploration of neuroplasticity, the brain’s capacity to reorganise and heal with the right interventions. It became clear that effective trauma-informed work must involve both cognitive understanding and somatic
To integrate body-based approaches, I trained in yoga and mindfulness. These modalities provided evidence-supported methods for down-regulating the stress response, improving interoception, and rebuilding the capacity for self-regulation. One of the central principles that guides Synergy is
there is nothing “wrong” with individuals affected by trauma; their nervous systems are functioning exactly as they learned to in order to
Synergy was developed to address this directly. The programme teaches participants how trauma and chronic stress affect physiological and emotional functioning, and provides accessible, research-informed tools—breathwork, mindful movement, grounding strategies, and emotional literacy—to support autonomic regulation and resilience. The goal is to help individuals re-establish a sense of safety in their bodies, improve emotional regulation, and rebuild the neural pathways associated with connection, calm, and executive
Synergy was created in response to something I witnessed repeatedly in education and care settings: behaviours often labelled as “challenging” were, in reality, signs of a dysregulated nervous system shaped by trauma, ACEs, and chronic stress.
As a psychology teacher, I recognised the neurobiological patterns — difficulties with emotional regulation, overwhelm, attention, and impulse control, all of which align with what we know about the impact of trauma on the autonomic nervous system and developing brain.
But I recognised these patterns personally too.
Growing up in the care system, I understood what it felt like to disconnect from my body to survive. I knew what chronic stress felt like from the inside. That lived experience shaped both my compassion and my determination to create something that genuinely supported regulation and long-term healing.
My work led me deeper into the neurobiology of trauma — understanding how the body quite literally keeps the score. Trauma is not only psychological; it is physiological. When the sympathetic nervous system is chronically activated, the body becomes stuck in patterns of protection that continue long after the original threat has passed.
Through this science, one truth became clear: we cannot teach resilience or emotional regulation to a nervous system that is still in survival mode.
Before we can talk, learn, or reflect, the body must first be soothed.
The overactivated stress response needs grounding, breathwork, mindful movement, and sensory regulation to signal safety. Only then can the parasympathetic nervous system engage, opening the pathways for learning, connection, and calm.
This understanding inspired Synergy.
I trained in yoga and mindfulness to integrate body-based, somatic regulation with psychological understanding. Synergy brings these approaches together, offering evidence-informed tools that help people understand their responses, regulate their bodies, and rebuild internal safety.
At the heart of Synergy is a core message:
there is nothing “wrong” with you, your body is responding exactly as it learned to survive.
Synergy teaches individuals how trauma and stress shape their emotional and physiological responses, and provides accessible practices that support grounding, resilience, emotional literacy, and reconnection with the body.
Synergy began with my story,
and now it exists to help others reclaim theirs.
